THE 'I BELONG' EDUCATIONAL KIT

The 'I Belong' educational kit presents a way to teach character education in the classroom and at home that is guaranteed to provoke thought and discussion between students and teachers/parents. What is the catalyst that makes this program so effective? MUSIC Diverse styles of songs and performances that are original and fun. Many of the songs on this CD were written directly from classroom workshops presided over by Bob King who is a composer/performer as well as a certified teacher/music specialist who has been working in schools for over twenty years. This educational kit contains four things:

- a fourteen song CD

- printed lyrics (with permission to copy)

- a teachers guide with topics for discussion and activities

- music tracks which will allow students to sing the songs with full accompaniment at assemblies or concerts or in class

This kit can be utilzed on its own or as part of Health/music/social studies curriculums. It is generally aimed at students from grades two to seven, but pieces of it can also be suitable or adaptable to any age group. The kit uses music to stimulate thought and discussion on many important issues concerning young people in their formative stages and tries to do so in a positive way. The music addresses such topics as:

- friendship (song: Friends)

(song: Friends)

- self esteem (song: I Belong)

- perseverence (song: Try, Try, Try)

- patience (song: Don't Grow Up Too Fast)

- shared values (song: Two Wrongs Don't Make A Right)

- maintaining a good attitude (song: Lose That 'Tude)

- working together (song: Everybody Wins With Teamwork)

- respect (song: Honor, Respect and Accountability)

- physical activity (song: Couch Potatoes)

-  good manners  (song:  Good Manners)

"This collection of music focuses on universal principles of behaviour that are commonly shared among people of various ethnic, cultural and religious backgrounds. Most children are aware of these good values that are, hopefully, taught within the home, but I also find that there is a need for children to be reminded of them occasionally in public situations in a way that is not too authoritarian or condescending. I think that positive reinforcement about good values is important for children in times when negative reinforcment and cynicical attitudes are prevalent. I hope and I am confident that this program will create a more positive and more productive learning environment for students, teachers and parents." - Bob King

"I LOVED the songs.  I listened to them several times in the car.  It’s some of the best character music for kids I’ve heard.  Great tunes, great lyrics."  - Tom Lickona - Center For The 4th and 5th Rs - State University of New York

"We use the kit in our school division and find it an excellent aid in teaching the students about social skills."      - Christine Boychuck Davidson School Division, Saskatchewan

We are a core area school and we had two performances of the 'I Belong' ed. kit for two different schools using the music tracks.  It was easy and the kids loved it.  For a while we were playing the song 'Energy' in our school over the P.A. system to get the kids going in the morning.  It worked.        -  Krista Sega  Teacher Pleasant Hill school   Saskatoon, Sk.

 Rock and Roll Teachers

This is Bob's newest album.  It contains songs that are fun and school positive like 'Hey Buddy Let's Go Study', The Garden Of Knowledge', 'Read A Good Book'.)  Some songs are curriculum related like 'Formulas' and 'Energy'.  The album also comes with karaoke tracks and teacher's notes.  It also contains a very popular song called 'The Mad Pencil song'.

Many teachers have played Bob King music from the above albums in their classrooms and have found them to be of great benefit in both calming the class and for inspiring the students to come up with creative ideas.  The music can be played in downtimes and during lunch hours or as the children are coming in from lunch or recess or in detention halls.  They can also be used in art classes and phys.ed. classes.
